Pamela Andelin: NEW UPCOUNTRY WORK
and
Eddie Flotte: STILL A-FLOAT

August 5th through September 1, 2004

PAMELA ANDELIN

Kitada Store
Oil on Linen
24" x 30"
$4000

Pamela Andelin’s exuberant town- and landscapes of upcountry Maui are familiar to many of us, and the renditions that will be available at Viewpoints are versions of her signature “island impressionism” that visitors to the gallery will find as fresh and exciting as ever. Andelin was born in Hawai`i to an artist father and reflects her sensitivity to the island environment and the spirit of our lifestyle in her paintings. She captures this spirit with bold color, unrestrained brushstrokes and the familiar forms, both natural and architectural, of our island home.

EDDIE FLOTTE

Still a Float in a Sea of Dreams
Watercolor
16.5" x 12
$2500

Eddie Flotte, a Maui resident since 1985, is best known for his meticulously drawn watercolors and his ability to elevate the prosaic objects of everyday experience to poetic heights. Flotte infuses the familiar with sincerity and humor, often making us see something we thought we knew in a novel way. In this new work, he presents more whimsical themes than we have seen from him. His subject matter in these paintings often hovers weightless in midair, sometimes with familiar Makawao landmarks below. The show includes portraiture as well, most notably a wry self-portrait of truly “Flottian” honesty.
