Beth Marcil lives in a world of color and texture: light and shadow. She weaves these elements into a unique visual tapestry that communicates the vibrancy, passion and sometimes the whimsy of the world she sees around her. This vision is dynamic and evolving.

Breakfast at the Aloha Cafe

Watercolor

In this show, Beth brings us new works which give us her view of the Celebration of Everyday Life in the Islands. She tells us, "Living on an island in the middle of the Pacific lends a different point of view... This microcosm of cultures and human interests attempting to 'make it work' within the context of an island community while maintaining the beauty and integrity of this community offers a great deal for an artist to explore on a personal as well as an artistic level.

Beth is joined in this show by ceramicist Ilene Kratka. One must let go of what one knows if one wishes to experience the subconscious realms of Ilene Kratka's world. Using the roundness of her thrown forms as an aid to entering her highly sensuous, empathetic inner world, she creates a realm where she can become a cloud and snuggle with the mountains.

When you experience Ilene's work you cannot just be an observer. You must participate in these moments in time where warm winds and misty rains not only caress you, but cause riots of color among the flowers. Where full moons slide into waiting bodies of water (causing great waves to rise in the night). This is a world with an active sky that stays in close contact with the island and its inhabitants. An ideal world where all things can exist in harmony.
